Recycle Rush had game pieces of gray and yellow totes, green recycling containers and color-coded pool noodles (litter). Points were scored by picking up and stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping these stacks with recycling containers and properly disposing of litter into the designated containers.
Our "Vulcan Venom" was the first time we used a swerve drive-- four wheels driven independently allowing the robot to move in any direction. Again we employed the monocoque chassis with a 4-bar lift. Team 1218 started slowly, losing in the quarterfinals of the Hatboro-Horsham District qualifier, but picked up dramatically two weeks later with the team winning both the event will alliance partners 225- Tech Fire and 204- Easter Robotics Vikings and winning the new Engineering Inspiration Award. Two weeks later at the Seneca District Event, 1218 won the event with Alliance partners 1640- SaBOTage and 5113- Combustible Lemons while also bringing home the District Chairmans' Award. At the FIRST Mid-Atlantic District Championships Team 1218 made it to the semi-finals and won the Regional Inspiration Award automatically qualifying the team for the World Championships. The team had a good showing at the World Championship making it to the finals of the Hopper Division.
