As the name implies, Rebound Rumble was a basketball themed competition, where robots manpiulate and shoot 8" foam basketballs into four hoops on each side of the field. At then end, robots need to balance on bridges to gain bonus points.
2012 was the first year of the new District model for FIRST Mid Atlantic. Instead of a single regional competition, teams in the district compete in two district qualifiers, where they earn qualification points towards competing in the District Championship event.

In addition, we designed the shooter to make goals reliable from beyond half court distance, giving 1218 a true competitive advantage.

It was a great year fo the Team, winning the trifecta of awards at our first district competition at Hatboro-Horsham High School- Winning Alliance, Chairmans Award and the Engineering Excellence Award. At the SCH District qualifier two weeks later, 1218 was again part of the winning alliance and won the Quality Award. Next stop was the Washington DC Regional, where we made it to the finals and won the Engineering Excellence Award. Having qualified for the Mid-Atlantic Championship at Lehigh University, 1218 got to the finals and won the Creativity Award.
At the World Champions, Team 1218 qualified in 6th place and made it to the semifinals of the Archimedes division with our Alliance partners 2590- Nemesis and 2851- Crevolution; losing to the ultimate 2nd place finished in the World Championship.
